Days Don't End Zine (& Substack!)
A welcome letter ⋆。°✩
No borders form around a life
We’re free to roam the winding nights
Look at the borrowed, look at the blue
How we wait inside the waiting room
We’re older now but never old
On a summer day, a son comes home
The days don’t end
Welcome to the Days Don’t End Substack, an extension of the Days Don’t End zine (currently based out of Boise, ID). Right off the bat, it feels important to note that this entire project isn’t meant to be some profound exploration of our existence; rather, I hope it serves as a space where readers find community and belonging. I’m not a capital W “Writer” by any stretch of the imagination, but I do love scribbling words on a page and seeing what sticks. I hope you do too.
Days Don’t End was inspired by the Mil-Spec song with the same name. The song touches on what I like to think of as the idea that whether you do or don’t do something, the time will pass anyway. I’ve always viewed the passage of time as this terrifying aspect — we’re born, time passes, and we die. That was probably mostly fueled by teenage angst and (at the time) newly diagnosed OCD and depression, but I digress. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to realize that the passage of time can be kind of…beautiful? Yes, it passes, but it’s full of joy, fun, heartbreak, chaos, change, and lessons learned. What an honor we get to experience that.
I don’t necessarily have a plan or direction for this project. I imagine it will entail a lot about the things that matter to me — community, hardcore, art, food, coffee, and Earth…but who is to say, really? I hope you enjoy the journey. Thanks for joining me.
